Our Environment

Maxwell Hardwood Flooring is manufacturing environmentally sound products that the consumer can be confident in and feel good about using. Wood, a natural resource that is self-renewing and in abundant supply, is a solid green choice for design materials and the environment. According to the USDA Forest Service, twice as much hardwood grows each year as is harvested in the United States. Volumes of timber are 90% larger than what they were half a century ago and past and current harvest practices insure that we have enough wood to meet today's demand as well as tomorrow's. All products are manufactured using new technologies and machinery that enables every pallet, plank, stick and grain of wood that passes through the facility to be utilized. Our commitment to the environment is as solid as the floors we stand on.

Our Lumber

Maxwell Hardwood Flooring fully supports sustainable forestry and the responsible stewardship of all natural resources. Our wood products come from responsibly managed hardwood forest in North America. Lumber used at our facilities is purchased from both SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified companies. From the moment our lumber arrives on the yard until it leaves as a finished product, every drop is utilized for products and fuel.

Our Fuel

Our 600 horsepower Fire Tube Boiler eliminates the need for fossil fuels to dry lumber. Wood waste that remains from flooring production lines is sent to the boiler and burned at high temperatures. The energy generated from this dry fuel is then used to heat water, which creates steam to dry the lumber. The boiler can provide enough steam to support the entire operation, including five dry kilns and a million board foot pre-dryer. The system eliminates the need to burn alternative fuels such as natural gas and other fossil fuels and is cleaner burning with fewer emissions. The small amount of ash that remains is contained and used as fertilizer in local gardens. Any remaining sawdust is used to create wood pellets. Pellet fuel is a renewable, cleaner burning, and efficient heating alternative used in free standing residential stoves. Burning wood pellets can be used as a substitute for electricity, wood fueled fireplaces and stoves, or fossil fuels such as propane and natural gas. Wood fibers burn cleaner than any other fuel source. This is just another method in which our company supports a cleaner environment and is more energy efficient.
